Since 2000, Great Lakes has also been home to Marine Air Control Group 48, whose squadrons coordinate all aspects of air command, control and defense within the U.S. Marine’s aircraft wing. Their tactical units have supported America’s missions during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, in Iran, Africa, Southwest Asia, and closer to home, on America’s Gulf Coast after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, where they exerted control in support of disaster relief efforts.
